Comprehensive Transportation Asset Management – The North Carolina Experience Part Two

Comprehensive Transportation Asset Management - The North Carolina Experience Part Two

In the second part of FHWA's case study on North Carolina DOT, the agency's expansion on its asset management program is explored. The NCDOT further developed their Long Range State Transportation Plan to complete the development of a 30 year Comprehensive Transportation Plan, a 10-year Transportation Plan and a 5-year Work Program. The agency has also developed and implemented performance measures, several management systems, web-based analytical tools to facilitate allocation of funds, improved decision making processes, and other asset management practices. With their many new developments and with their maintenance and preservation approach to asset management, NCDOT has continued to expand its use of TAM philosophies to build a more proactive agency. This report is part of the FHWA Office of Asset Management's series of case studies on TAM, produced with the goal of sharing information between agencies to improve efficiency.
