Chief Data Officer, Connecticut DOT
Greg Ciparelli is the Chief Data Officer for the Connecticut DOT. Greg has been an important driving force behind Connecticut DOT's use of emerging technology platforms for data-driven decision-making. Playing a key role in DOT’s framework for gathering, managing, and analyzing data, he’s led the Department’s use of GIS (Geographic Information System) to map and catalogue the state’s transportation assets and the way they are used. Intelligence gathered through the Department’s data has been invaluable during the COVID-19 public health emergency, including insights into how the pandemic is affecting roadway and mass transit patterns, including traffic volumes/vehicle speeds and their impact on crash rates. Ciparelli, who grew up in Ellington and now calls New Britain home, has been with the Connecticut Department of Transportation for more than 15 years.
