Matt Modarelli

Biography
Matt Modarelli is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The mission of WSDOT’s IT enterprise is to provide secure, reliable, and cost-effective technology solutions that enable transportation options to improve communities and economic vitality for people and businesses. As CIO and Director of the Information Technology Division, Matt oversees one of the state’s largest IT enterprises supporting over 7,000 employees, 18,600 lane miles of state highways, 3,300 bridge structures, rail operations, and the largest ferry system in the nation that moves 24.2 million passengers and 10 million vehicles a year. Prior to serving WSDOT, Matt was the CIO for the Washington State Military Department as well as the nation’s first state-level Cyber Security Manager for Emergency Management. Matt is also a retired combat veteran who served in various IT and security leadership positions during his career with Department of the Air Force. He holds Master’s Degrees in Operational Art and Design, and Management Information Systems (MIS). He is a Certified Information Systems Analyst, and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
